New Leader Guidance

Thank you for considering being a Den Leader, filling one of the most important roles in Cub Scouting and helping a den thrive and grow. Without your help and leadership, the den cannot exist, the boy cannot be served, and the pack cannot be sustained.

The Tiger year is set up so that both the boys and the leader have a chance to learn all about Scouting together.  Parent involvement is required during the Tiger year to give the leader additional help, and so that other parents will be able to continue to assist as the boys progress.

The main goal of being a leader is to plan and organize activities that will help the boys meet their rank in a given year.  There are pre-set planning worksheets that will plan the whole year out.  The other leaders will be available to provide ideas and suggestions.  Training is available on line and at local workshops to assist you.

Adult volunteers must agree to a background check and to take the "Youth Protection Training," which is a 20-minute online course that provides basic information for protecting the safety of the children you are assisting.  One concept you will learn about is "two-deep leadership," which requires a minimum of two adults always be present when working with Scouts.
